South Padre Island recommendations

Heading to SPI for our first time in a couple of weeks. Would love some feedback on things to do, places to eat, must sees.

A little background: It's just the my husband & me, late 50s, pretty active. We are amateur bird-nerds & love spending time outside, walking the beach or exploring a nature preserve or two.

We'll be there in early December for 4 nights with nothing planned so far. We're just excited to head somewhere fairly warm after the 9 inches of November snow we got yesterday.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Curious as to why you picked this particular location.

Based on the OP's post I think SPI is a great choice.

HV, since you are a bird nerd I assume you have already checked out the following:

https://www.spibirding.com/

I loved the dolphin watching tour. I remember seeing at least 100 dolphins but maybe I was there on a good day.

I also recommend Sea Turtle Inc.

http://www.seaturtleinc.org/

And of course there's a lot to be said for hanging out in bars by the water and listening to live music. I can't recommend a particular place as it's been a few years since I was down there but you will find a place.

Have a great trip!!

the reason I asked my question is there are several places in Florida that have plenty of both birds and nature preserve areas and just might be WARMER but whatever.

Your question was a fair one Dukey. There's nothing wrong with asking what interests the OP about that location.

Thanks for the feedback.

Dukey, FL is lovely, but we've been to a few different areas there & have never been to SPI. Plus, on our last FL trip (to the Keys) I got stung by a Portugese Man-o-War & found out that I'm allergic. Big fun. Thought SPI could be something different. Never been anywhere in TX. And since I live in CT, SPI will be way warmer than home.

P_M, yes, I have researched those places & am looking forward to visiting both, plus likely Laguna Atascosa.

Hoping the next 3 weeks fly by.

Oh, yeah. Another thought is that TX has a lot of birds that we don't have on the East coast, too. Late night stray thoughts.

So, should I be taking it as a bad omen that only one person has recommendations? Is there something I should know before I go?
