making sense of maps

Has anyone been able to make any sense of the official map of the public tranpsort system of New York?!

Are you referring to the subway map?

Sure. It's all color-coded, even. Be sure you're working with the full version and not a tiny one that doesn't contain all the essential information.

If yuo mean the subway map - yes. It' perfectly simple.

You should download the interactive version - so you can zoom in and see the part you want in greater detail. (The only problem is so many trains/stops in so little space if you don't zoom in.)

What do you find so difficult about the map? How can we help you?

Have you studied a regular map of NYC? I think you'll find the subway map and a regular map very similar.

(By the way, the current map is a great improvement over the former one, which was graphically beautiful design by Massimo Vignelli, but had little to do with the actual geography of the city.)

I can't say that the MTA maps are better or worse than those of any other public transport system.

There is nothing like having a little experience to help you figure out the best train or bus to take in a particular situation.

If you have a PDA or access to the internet, there is a very good program called Metro that will help, not only for NYC, but many other cities with public transport.

From the OP's only other thread:

I will be travelling to Europe and plan to visit some major cities. Where can I get some maps of public transport systems that are easy to use and accurate?!</i>&quot;

I see a theme here :)

If you have that much trouble, just ask for directions or hopstop your trips.
