If anyone wants to go to "Sobe" after reading Richard's remarks ("it's soooooo hot! dude!") I would be surprised.

Sea Island, GA...
The Cloister Resort-This a wonderful and very romantic place.
The spa is top notch w/ workout facilities, hard pack beaches for running. Golf, Tennis, shooting, Kayaying. Black Tie dinners...
I got married on the front lawn there and just got back from my 10 year anniversary.

Vegas can be interesting....I would say erotic over romantic, but the resturants are great and throwing dice
is fun!

SoBe is way over rated. Yuck. Go up the coast a couple of miles.

Joe G. Nov 19th, 2002 09:29 AM

Vegas is romantic if you subscribe to The Hugh Hefner School of Romance.
Joe G.

Richard Nov 19th, 2002 09:49 AM

Hey, everyones idea of a fun weekend is diferent, and I was just putting out suggestions, not asking for an insult.

But your remarks speak for themselves, you are obviously too young to have ever traveled, or too old and out of the loop....stay home with your secured WalMart charge card and keep dreaming!

What! Nov 19th, 2002 09:58 AM

Vegas erotic? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA That's the best laugh of the day. I like Joe's comment. Joe G. Cool! Vegas is a turn OFF.

Mid 30's here and I think Palm Springs is a blast! Great spas and outdoorsy things.

Try Vegas. You will find a good day spa at the Bellagio as well as everything else you are looking for within a short walking distance. Parts of Vegas are a little cheesey but easily overlooked.

What about Austin, TX? Stay at the hotel San Jose down on South Congress, tour the capital, shop, lots of live music there. Lots of wonderful places to hike there.

I'm 36 and if my husband surprised me with a trip, I would hope it would be: New York City, San Francisco, Paris or London (there are some incredible deals to Europe now). At any of the places listed above you could really relax, do some shopping, take in some theater, go to nice restaurants, and museums. I know you said she likes to exercise, but don't worry about her workout routine- it will be there when she gets back! Let us know where you decide to go and have a great time!

JTAYLOR Nov 19th, 2002 04:22 PM

Oops - missed the post where you said that your wife's family is in London. Run fast, run far, far away from London!! LOL!

Mike hocksbigg posted one of his juvenile comments last night that was on the thread only minutes. I'd guess a mental age of 13 no matter what his actual age is.

San Juan Puerto Rico.

The Wyndham El San Juan is very romantic. No passport needed, since it is owned by the United States.

Have fun.

Another idea Nov 20th, 2002 08:30 AM

A couple of suggestions:

I agree, Bermuda is gorgeous and a quick flight from the east coast. The Reefs resort is wonderful.

St John, USVI is gorgeous also. Rent a villa, hire a private chef to cook one night for you. Amazingly romantic or book at upscale Caneel Bay resort. It has 7 beautiful beaches.

Hawaii a pain in the ass to get to from the Northeast.

San Francisco would be another choice and a drive to either wine country or Monterey. Also beautiful.

New Orleans, South Beach or Arizona would not be my choice.

Just another suggestion to overwhelm you.

Good luck and let us know what choice you made. Again, first choice St. John, USVI or Bermuda.
Note that college kids have spring break March-April. Many carribean resorts cater to the kids. Quieter areas like Aruba or Grand Cayman might not attract the party crowds.

step away from all of the city madness....go to Key West....nice hotels or perhaps a charming cottage with a private pool???.....try rentkeywest.com....I've never been disapointed

TedTurner Oct 18th, 2003 05:48 PM

I think the original poster's wife has already had her 40th.

This post is almost a year old.

traveljune Oct 18th, 2003 07:00 PM

Maybe she'd like something nice for her 41st birthday.

logandog Oct 18th, 2003 08:33 PM

Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada would be great for a 41st. as well.

DeeDee Oct 18th, 2003 09:22 PM

My curiosity had me reading all these posts expecting that somewhere in all this would be the outcome. Alas, no answer to the big question -- Where did you take her David? How did it work out?
