Maine whale watching

Thinking of going to Maine in late September to see whales before they leave the area. Any suggestions on which company to use?

More important the company is where in Maine will you be? Maine is a big state and different co's work out of different ports.

Lodging prices go UP at the end of September as the leaf-peepers start to invade, and car rentals can be booked up. It's also very cold at sea and weekday excursions are few due to lack of customers.

Yes we'd need to know where in Maine you plan to visit. The Southern beaches, the mid-coast, Acadia?

I will be driving and have been to Main but my travel companion has not, this trip is really for him. Not concerned about the lodging issues. We can go where ever we'll have the best experience. Southern, mid-coast, Acadia all possibilities.

Reviews from people who've been on a few different Whale Watch excursions seem to trend a preference towards First Watch out of Kennebunkport. Capn Fish's out of Boothbay has a long-standing good reputation as well.
