Maine vacation
Does anyone know anything about the Tradewinds Motor Inn in Rockland, Maine?
Does anyone one know how long it takes to drive from New York to Portland, Maine in mid-August? Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Depends on where in New York you're coming from, but Portland is about 1 hour and 35 minutes further than Boston.

The Tradewinds is a basic no frills tourist motel that is kinda overpriced in the summertime since there aren't too many places to stay in Rockland in comparison to the number of summer visitors. The pool is indoors and the rooms are not fancy but clean.

The Strawberry Hill Motor Inn in nearby Rockport would be a better choice but might also be a little more expensive since its right by the water.

If you are coming to Maine in mid-august during a weekend, I would plan on closer to two hours from Boston. I think the trip from NYC took us 5 hours.

We have stayed at the Strawbeery Hill Motor Lodge. It was very clean. Had a pool. Take a walk along the water's edge(It's beautiful).we watched the commorands. It's very peaceful. They had a Continental breakfast . I would recommend it. Eat at the Lobster Pound in Lincolnville for dinner. You can't go wrong. Hope this helps.

The lobster pound in Licolnville is beautifully set on the water. I would also recommend the Waterfront restaurant in Camden. At high tide you get a close up view of the boats. Also, sunset at Rockport Harbor, beautiful and unspoiled. Picture Perfect. I also recommend the Owls Head Transportation Museum and the Farnsworth Museum. We stayed at Samoset Resort, very pricey and nice, but I wouldn't go back. Have Fun!
