Maine trip from Syracuse NY
 

Please offer any opinions thoughts etc... on this plan!!
We are going to be driving to Bar Harbor Maine from Syracuse NY August 14th.
We are going to leave at 6 am and drive straight through.(we keep debating this one, could possibly leave the night before after work and go part way)
We are going to stay there until the 17th.
Now, coming back we thought we would take our time a bit since I have never been to any of the New England states.
This is what we were thinking: leave early on the 17th and drive to Newport and do some shopping, then to Portland and do some looking around etc. and then spend the night in Portsmouth. Does that sound like too much in one day?
What else would be good to see on the way? we really don't want to go too much off our route.We are not on too much of a time limit. We have the whole week off.

That drive coming back sounds all mixed up/ backwards.

Oh.. I don't know why.I have a trip tik and when driving back from Bar Harbor it is 155 miles to Freeport then on to Portland which is 168 miles from Bar harbor and then to Portsmouth which is 68 miles from there. All of these are on route 95 on our way home.

That itinerary is fine. The reason why tracys2cents say it's all mixed up is because you typed "Newport" in your original post, when you meant "Freeport".
