Maine or Savannah

There's a whole world out there and not enough time to see everything we want to see..recently retired couple would like to fly from Michigan for a week or so, rent a car if need be...thinking of either Maine or Savannah. Want to eventually see both but can only do one this Sept/Oct...which would you recommend and why?

Since our leaves don't change, my vote is for Maine to be a leaf peeper! Also to stay in a romantic B&B on the rugged Maine coast with my sweetie and snuggle in front of a fire.

I agree. Maine in the fall and save Savannah and Charleston for the Spring when the azaleas and spring flowers make both cities fantastic! Fall in the South is not all that beautiful.

I agree with ME but if you want to see foliage, wait until Oct.

Sep/Oct defintely Maine.
Savannah would be nice in early spring. We visited there this year and I absolutely MUST recommend the Mansion on Forsyth Park.

It is just around the corner from the Mercer House "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." If you plan to dine out and see the sights or take in a bit of Jazz and cocktail or two, ask the hotel to put you on the list for their personal taxi (no charge to you.) PS...this is a non smoking hotel.

September, IMO, is the most beautiful month in Maine. Breezy, often warm days and chilly evenings. The foliage is beautiful, but peaks in late Sept/early October. By mid-October it's beyond peak. Also, apple-picking is a fun fall tradition that we never miss...
