Maine in the Summer

hey, wondering if anyone has feedback on vacation destinations in Maine..which is most recommended (for quaintness, views, shops, lobster): Bar Harbor, Camden, Kennebunkport or Rockport?
How is the weather in the summer? How far is the drive from Portland? Cheers!!

To me Bar Harbor/Acadia is the most scenic, but if shopping is important to you, it probably won't do. It's about 3.5 hours from Portland.

I agree about Bar Harbor. If you love hiking and nature, this is a great place to be.
I've also been to kennebunkport and Ogunquit. Although both have some charm, and are also scenic, they are touristy. That said, there are plenty of things to do..whale watching, shopping checking out galleries and antique shops, dining at great restaurants.

Have fun...Maine is wonderful!

I loved Bar Harbor. Loved it's views, it's quaintness, its shops (just a few) and the lobster. But I must say, lobster's the same all over in my opinion.

I was also fond of Kennebunkport, and it did have more artsy shops.

Don't know about either's proximity to Portland. Sorry, but I never paid attention.

thank you! I only ask about Portland b/c we're thinking of flying (from NYC to avoid 8 hr drive), but looks like it's a trek from there to the coast anyway. Flights to Bar Harbor from NY are too expensive..
Bar Harbor sounds great, maybe we could do 2 nights there and a night or day trip to Kennebunkport/Rockport. Shopping isn't important at all, just liked the idea of cute shops in a new england town feel..
