Boothbay Harbor is the quintessential Maine seacoast town. Still exists as a working fishing/lobstering village as well as a great spot for visitors who want to avoid over-commercialization and want to experience a delightful village with great character.

Hi there.. we travelled all the way from Ireland to spend our honeymoon in Maine and loved every part of it. For a really special event (like your anniversary) you should check out the Captain Lord Mansion in Kennybunkport. Each room is individually decorated, the bathroom features a claw footed bath (usually overlooking the garden) you will sleep in four poster canopy beds etc... Breakfast is four courses and is so much that you won't need to eat again until dinner. For dinner check out Windows on the Water or else Mabels (great seafood). One of the most special touches is the diary in each room - everyone that stays there writes up an entry for while they are there so if you go back over the entries you'll find some recommendations on restaurants, things to do etc. We definitely plan to go back.

Nothing really to add other than I loved Camden and the wonderful old homes all over. Somewhere south of Camden there used to be a prison store and they have those beautiful model boats for great prices. I was a little leary going in (criminals!) but it wasn't weird at all. Just be sure you can get the boat home if you buy a large one!

If I were you I would take Monday off - the typical day off and probably busier day is Friday so you'll be able to stay after everyone else has to check out for the weekend on Sunday. It is a trick we do and it is fun to nananana those going home.

Have a great time, I want to go back so much!

Anytime in Maine is terrific! We have been there two years in a row, both in May and both in Camden. We stayed at the Country Inn on the Camden-Rockport line right on Route 1. The rooms are spacious--some have sitting areas with a TV. Breakfast is included and everyone is very hospitable. The location is an asset--easy access to Camden Harbor and then all places north. We enjoyed the ride on Route l as far as Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. If you do go to Acadia, in addition to the regular tourist areas there, drive down the other side of the peninsula to Schoodic Point. It is especially beautiful there, particularly during a storm. Our favorite restaurant a short drive from Camden is Lincolnville Lobster Restaurant right on Rt. l, but on Lincolnville Beach. Chez Michael in the same town was
also highly recommended, In Camden, we loved Cappy's Chowder House. The Waterview Restaurant was another suggestion, although we didn't eat there. A small restaurant with reasonable prices and good food is on Rt. 1 in Rockport just past an outdoor store with kayaks outside. It is small and white and looks very unpretentious, but it is a favorite of ours. I can't think of the exact name, but it is something to do with the ocean. A wonderful craft store is in Belfast on Rt. l--Mainely Pottery. We bought some great lamps there. If you go, tell the owner, Jamie Oates that the lamp buyers from the Cape sent you.
