Portland: mailboat or other cruise of the harbor/Casco Bay.
Rockland: Owls Head Transportation Museum, Farnsworth Art Museum, easy, short hike to Owls Head Light
Lunch at any of the popular lobster shacks.
Auto Rd up Mt Battie in Camden
Wine tasting at Cellar Door Winery either in shop on Rt 1 near Camden or original place in Lincolnville.
Rt 1 south of Ellsworth - the huge Chicken Barn antiques and used books. See their website.

MDI ice cream (they also have a shop in Old Port Area of Portland)

The above doesn't include meandering down peninsulas to enjoy the scenery.

Here's my trip report of Portland from last summer. There's lots to see/do:

Thanks for the info... I guess I should have given more info: This is not for me, actually, but for my friends, 4 women, age 50-55, renting a car. They're there for a senior basketball training camp, staying a couple more days to enjoy the area....

Portland is quite a drive from Bar Harbor, where exactly are they staying?

Just finished watching "Sunday Morning", and was bemused by Bill Geist's story about a unique artist in Maine. Okay, I suspect that Hancock is a goodly distance from Portland.
