Maine beaches

My wife and I are travelling to southern Maine in mid September. Looking at the beaches area. Biddeford, Ogunquit, Old Orchard Beach, etc. . I need opinions on the best places to stay, eat, etc. We will only be there for 2 nights. Would prefer a rental unit over a hotel. I've always had great luck with vrbo.com, and prefer the privacy. I just don't know which city or place to look first. Any help that anyone can give me would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

We are partial to the York Harbor area, but anything along up to Biddeford Pool is nice too. Look at www.homeaway.com . There are a lot of great options there. Note though that in Septmeber a lot may still have minimum stays longer than 2 nights!

You might investigate Popham State Park Beach area, north of Portland. The beach is wide and the dunes impressive. Sandy Beach at Acadia is beautiful, though rather crowded during peak season.

Enjoy your trip.

We go to Ogunquit beach. There is parking right at the beach which make lugging your stuff much easier. The beach area is quite large so there is space to choose from.

York Beach area is very pretty, but the beach itself is much smaller and you have to park along the road which can end up being a hike from the beach.

Ogunquit is the most beautiful beach. Mid September can be tricky and likely not "sit on the beach" weather, but nice for walking. Ogunquit has nice shops, walking on the marginal way, and you could go up to Kennebunkport and poke around too.
