Madonna Inn - Ca.

I had a recommendation from someone that I should stay here on my trip - anyone have any thoughts about the place? is it worth it? Pros/cons - what room to pick? thanks!

stayed there over 20 years ago on my wedding night! It was fun, kitschy, a layer of pretend luxury on top of an old style motel.
Last time I looked at my AAA book, I was surprised to see it wasn't rated, and was characterized as a "basic" property...which makes me wonder if it may have taken a downhill turn...

I have never stayed at Madonna Inn, but have been there to eat several times when my grandmother lived in Morro Bay. It was a fun place, pretty pink and good food, interesting shopping too. I've heard the rooms are nice. You can't beat the area - be sure to drive over to "the rock" in Morro Bay - there's great food, shopping and sights over there too.

I stay there once a year on my trip to a health spa in Ojai. I've been going there since it opened and it is what everyone says - over-the-top kitsch but fun.

Last time I had the Rose Room (all the rooms are themed) and it was really big with a nice bathroom and a garden surrounding it. Rates are very reasonable and the staff is very nice.
The bakery is great, too.

The first time I stayed there with my parents on the way to Disneyland, Luciile Ball was at the next table. I remember being so confused because she was with her new husband, Gary Morton, and not "Ricky" from TV!

Oh Lucille Ball at the next table - how cool is that!

My Grandma (who is a HUGE Lucille Ball fan) tells a story of taking my dad and his brother to Disneyland right after it openned. They were in line for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, I believe. It was late in the day and my Grandma was exhasted. She leaned on the railing and looked over at another equally tired mother with her kids - their eyes met with that familiarity of two people in the exact same situation. That other tired mother was none other than Lucille Ball.

You might want to check out the website to see if the decor appeals to you.

We ate at the restaurant once. There was so much copper that the place smelled like copper. The more formal restaurant is over the top as well.

I've been to the restaurant a few times, but haven't stayed there. It sounds like a lot of fun. A friend swears by the cave man room.
