Madison, Wisconsin: Hotel Located Within Walking Distance of UW

We'll be visiting the University campus and would prefer to stay as close as possible.
I've looked at TripAdvisor reviews but have had difficulty figuring out what is really close to campus.

Prefer a hotel to a B+B; chains are fine; this is not "budget" travel.

Thanks very much for any help.

Which part of campus? It's several miles long, and there are hotels in the State Street area, as well as one at the other end (can't remember the name right now).

Actually I found at least one place (by using Google "maps")...a Best Western located on University Avenue which seemed close enough to walk.

Have fun, DS just graduated last May. It was always fun to visit him at school.

Best Western Inntowner at University and Highland? I lived across the street for a year. That one's convenient for the west end of campus, not so much the east end. It depends on which part you'll be touring. Campus is pretty spread out though, so I don't know that you can get away with not walking alot on a tour.

Last time I was there I stayed at the Madison Concourse Hotel which is right next to the capital (just off State) and walking distance to campus (or close enough). My impression was that was towards the top end of hotels in Madison (caters to business).

If you're visiting the campus and want to get the flavor of UW you'll want to stay near State Street.

Thanks, everyone for your prompt and kind replies.

I just made a reservation at the Dahlmann Campus Inn which seems to be the closest place of all and is apparently close to State Street and other/various attractions.

Again, thanks very much for your suggestions and help.
