Madison Advice

We will be attending a wedding in September at the Olbrich Gardens in Madison and are looking for hotel suggestions. We have been in the city twice, but many years ago. We will have a car, but would like to be in an area where we can walk to some restaurants/shops. Hopefully we will not hit a UW event weekend!
Any suggestions for accomodations/restaurants will be appreciated.

As former students, we like strolling State St for shops and restaurants. We've only stayed in a couple of hotels in that area: The Concourse is nice; the University Inn is pretty dumpy.

The Concourse is a very good choice. There is a new Hyatt downtown that is quite good, too. There are also some nice B&Bs downtown, if you prefer those - the Hotel Ruby Marie and one on Pinckney Street whose name escapes me right now.

September is a great month to be here. I hope you get lucky and have the football game away!

This is a perfect spot for walking anywhere downtown and near the capitol... http://www.hiltonmadison.com/

I just booked the Sheraton Madison Hotel for my DH in mid-Feb on Priceline for $46/night. I would suggest booking something cancelable and then checking Priceline closer to the event.

I've always done well with Priceline in Madison. The Sheraton is the furthest away from downtown, but really just a short drive. I have also gotten he Concourse and the Monona Terrace Hilton on Priceline.
