Mad to go to SW Florida in October?

We are planning a break in October (from Ontario) and are considering going to Fort Myers Beach, Florida. We know the area well as we go in January each year, but I wonder if the weather will be too hot, humid, wet in mid-October. Any thoughts?

I think October is the absolute best time to go to the beach.

SusanMargaret -

I got married on Captiva Island in mid-October in 2007. The weather really varied. One day was fairly warm, in the upper 80s, and the next had periodic showers. Overall, though, people enjoyed themselves and were able to cool off on the beach and at the pool. I've also been down there at other times during the year - the only time I DIDN'T like it was in June (too sticky). Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for your replies. I feel much better about our plans now and look forward to spending two or three weeks at the Beach.

Oct, Nov, Mar, Apr, May are great times to come here.

The humidity is lower so you don't get those heavy days.

For June thru Sept I'd go to the east side as you have the ocean breeze.

You just have to plan appropriately. During the hot (rainy) months you plan your beach stuff in the morning and then you indoor stuff in mid-day.

We just got back from that area and found the nights absolutely delightful!!! It was so comfortable and relaxing sitting on the beach in the late afternoon, waiting for the sunset! Plus the ocean was so warm! Have a great time, wish we were still there!!

We went in July once. Don't do that. October should be lovely!

We're going to Sanibel the end of next week, and can't wait. We were there in September last year, and had a wonderful time. Don't worry ... October will be a great time for the beach in Florida.

There is the "tiny" chance of a hurricane coming around the bend and up the Gulf but it is a "very tiny" chance, so don't worry too much, but at the same time have alternative plans just in case.

Other than that you will find October to be a wonderful month to visit this area.

OTOH, we are going up north in early October just to get away from the heat... (the grass is always greener on the other side )
