Mackinaw lodging

Has anyone stayed at the Econolodge Bayview in mackinaw? We liked the idea of two rooms with two queen beds for the two of us and our two teenage daughters. Is it roomy and or comfortable? Any suggestions on what to see and do while we are there?

I haven't stayed there, but it has had a good reputaton.

It is across the street from the water and at the south end of Mackinaw City's main business district. The closest ferry dock (to Mackinac Island) is only about a block away. "Downtown" is about 4-5 blocks away with a pleasent walk.

Things to do? Mackinac Island would be a whole subject on its own. So would interesting day trips.

Mackinaw City has history (Fort Michilimackinac, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, Mill Creek Historic Park), many gift shops, many restauants for its size (though nothing really fancy), many fudge shops, waterpark, miniture golf, live theater, free outdoor concerts and free nightly lazer shows. And of course the water and the Bridge.

I recomend at least one fresh fish dinner, and sample a pasty at the shop about 2 blocks north of your motel.

One of the unique local attractions is the Lighthouse cruises. They are conducted by Sheppler's Ferry and the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association. They only have them 2 or 3 times a week, so check the schedule in advance if it sounds interesting.

If you have particular interests, let us know and I and others may be able to give more specific suggestions.

I've narrowed my search and am thinking about staying at The Beach House or Clearwater Lakeshore Motel (I like to get away from the chains when there seem to be nice "mom & pop" places around). Both are available and prices are comparable. Any recommendation on which is nicer? Thanks!

We've never stayed at The Beach House but we've stayed at Clearwater Lakeshore many times. In fact I just booked it again for Labor Day weekend. It's not fancy, but very clean and family run. We love the views from the balconies and it is quiet since it is at about the end of the motel strip along the water.

Thanks so much for the helpful information. As a matter of fact, lighthosues are one of my personal favorite things to see. We like to hike, go to the beach and do some of the tourist attractions. We are also game for new experiences.
