Mackinac Island trip report

No this isn't a report from months ago, I was in the Straits area last weekend and daytriped over by plane. The cost was only $44 roundtrip from St. Ignace.

There is still pleanty of snow on the Island and I took many photos. Also visted the few businesses that were open.

My report with photos is at http://www.mightymac.org/mackinacislandwinter.htm

Thanks for posting. We were there for the first time last fall and I wondered what it would look like in the winter.

Wonderful trip report, thanks for sharing!

Do any of the hotels operate during the winter ?

It seems so peaceful.

ruwithme, there are some condos available in the winter, but to the best of my knowledge that is it.

I think Mission Point is open all winter, but they might have changed that.

Thanks for sharing! It looks soooo quiet. Although I guess there are snowmobile engines going all the time.

The snowmobile engines were less annoying than you might expect. Most of them are well muffled, and I didn't hear them until they were a couple of blocks away.

Along the shore, it was quiet enough that I could hear the freighters engines, and their sliding through the ice pack as far away as the Mackinac Bridge. Nine miles or so.

Thanks for the memories, Keith!

As a child, my parents took us camping all over Michigan; we lived in Port Huron. One summer we ventured to Mackinac Island and loved it. After all these years, it still looks pretty much the same...enchanted.

I’ve thought more than once about taking my daughter up there. You’ve reminded me of that idea today, thanks for posting.

My only trip was one year in June for the lilac festival. It was gorgeous.

Thanks so much for posting the pictures. We loved them. We have been there many times in the summer but never in the winter - loved the beauty. Also enjoyed seeing the first boats of the season heading up the Straits.
