LV to GC to Phoenix---Feasible?
At the end of November we are planning a trip to Vegas. We are going for 5 days. I was thinking 3 days in LV, 1 day at Grand Canyon and 1 day to fly out of Phoenix. Does this make sense or would it work out better returning back to Vegas? The airfare is the same whether I fly back home from either Vegas or Phoenix. Any suggestions on what makes more sense...
Thanks. Mike |
We made this trip a year or so ago. But we spent another day in LV and another couple of days on the road to Phoenix. It was fun although I could have easily spent more time exploring the GC.
You will have to pay a drop-off fee for your rental car, of course. |
And...that time of the year, the roads to GC could be closed. You can do an internet check before you leave, but it will not be current when you arrive in that area. Suggest you look for a phone number to verity accessibility for your planned date and on that date. Maybe check with hotel where you have reservations?

It takes about five hours to travel from the Grand Canyon to either Las Vegas or Phoenix. If the cost is the same, you may as well go on to Phoenix just for variety's sake. In one day there, you can see a bit of desert scenery or the Heard Museum. It won't be the same as the Canyon or Vegas, but that's the point.

Weather permitting, you could go through Sedona, AZ on your way from GC to Phoenix, which is beautiful country, even in the snow!

Thanks for all the replies. Since weather might be an issue getting to the Grand Canyon, maybe I should book the trip into Vegas and out of Vegas just in case..if the roads are ok we will do an overnight trip there and back instead of working our way down to Phoenix.
