Luxury solitude in Smoky Mountains?
 

Hi! My husband and two adult daughters are lookiing to spend about 4-5 days in the Smoky Mountains. We would like to stay in a nice cabin that is more remote from other cabins or not in an extremely touristy area. We are interested in hiking, rafting, picknicing, and just plain relaxing. We wanted a cabin that includes nicer amenities, such as a jacuzzi, hot tub, and maybe even a porch swing-along with a wooded view. We looked at some cabins online in Townsend, but are open to any other suggestions or ideas, especially on other things to do! Thanks in advance!

Check out Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend (www.dancingbearlodge.com) - the cabins are not remote, but probably some of the nicest in the area. If you have the budget for it, check out "The Swag" (www.theswag.com)on the North Carolina side. It's remote, private and adjacent to the park. The rates are not so bad when you factor in all meals and snacks.

You might take a look at Snowbird Mt Lodge.
It is in Robbinsville,NC, I think.

Have not been there, but my husband and I have been trying to find the time to get away.

There is another place, more like a B&B or small inn that gets rave reveiws.
Blackberry Inn, or something like that.

The name escapes me, maybe someone else will know it.

We also stayed in this cabin in Wears Valley, maybe 15 or 20 minutes to Pigeon Forge: http://www.sugarmaplecabins.com/cabi...&group_id=. It's in a neighborhood, but the cabins/homes aren't close to each other, and with the trees, it's very private. There are a couple of restaurants and gift shops about five minutes from the cabin.

Some friends and I rented through Parkside Cabin Rentals last summer (parksidecabinrentals.com). The cabin we had was great - two big bedrooms and one smaller, each with their own bath, leather couches, big living room/kitchen, huge porch with a hot tub (and a TV above the hot tub). And pretty views. They have cabins in several locations; ours was probably a 15-minute drive into Gatlinburg and close to at least one grocery store. It may not be that close to rafting or serious hiking - I'm not sure - but if it is, or if those things are optional, I'd definitely recommend the company.

Have you been to Blackberry Farm? You sure post a lot and seem to have a lot of travel knowledge but I really doubt you spent a night at BB Farm. If so then excuse me. Did you stay in the lodge or a cottage.

Teach check out Dancing Bear Lodge near Townsend. It's owned by the same folks that own Blackberry Farm and it's first class. Have a nice trip.

No, Ike, I haven't (regarding BBF). I didn't say that I had either. A family member and a friend who celebrated their anniversary have - but they have deeper pockets than I.

In the Banner Elk area - I've eaten at Mast Farm's restaurant several times (I think three if accuracy is being measured - through at least two changes of ownership) but usually stay in Boone on hotel points (as in free). I've done the sleigh ride nearby - and that was fun!

I've only heard raves from BB Farm from those I've spoken to. Have you heard any negatives (other than price?)

I posted the link to BBF because the previous poster mentioned it and I thought the correct name and the link would be helpful to the OP. The Mast Farm Inn also came to mind, so I mentioned it as well.

I was in the Smokeys this weekend and stayed at the HIX in Kodak - mainly because it was the closest accomodation (2.4 miles) to the Smokies Arena where Dolly was performing a benefit concert (and they allowed pets). The previous night I was at my place in the mountains.

I was also going to say The Swag. I haven't been, but my husband has stayed there with family and they still talk about how great it was. The property abuts the GSMNP and I think is very near the Appalachian Trail. The Swag is located near Maggie Valley, NC, and is near the Cataloochie Valley section of the GSMNP, which is not heavily visited since the only access is via narrow gravel mountain roads. But the drive is worth the effort. The valley is mostly unspoiled and there are elk that come out of the mountains in the evening to graze. You can get very close to the animals.

Check out townsend getaways cabins. They are rented by owner and she (Robin) is wonderful to work with. She lives in Knoxville so if any problems come up, she's a phone call away. We were going to stay in Mountain Breeze in April but our trip was cut short by a death in the family. We did stop at the cabin to check it out on our way back home. The pictures on her website did not do the place justice. The rooms were much bigger than pictured and the place was spotless. The area is secluded - it's in a golf course community, but the cabins are not on top of each other.

WE stayed in a 4 bedroom cabin called Overlook Lodge. It was through Jackson Mountain Homes. I would highly recommend that company. We were about 15 minutes outside of Gatlinburg and the view was beautiful. They have cabins all over the area so just tell them your specifics and they can tell you what they have to offer.
