Luxury New England Inns/Hotels
Looking for a fantastic place in New England to spend New Year's Eve, preferably a package deal that includes dinners. Any ideas out there?

The Mayflower Inn is a pretty fantastic place, located in Washington, Connecticut (near Litchfield). You will have to bring $$$$$ as it is not cheap. According to the web site, they have a 5 course new years eve black tie dinner that includes pre-dinner cocktails & hors d'oeuvres plus wine parings with each course and dancing to a live band afterwards. You are looking at $375 per person plus the cost of your hotel room.

The Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH comes to mind as does the White Barn Inn which is in Kennebunkport ME - $670 per person for their New Years package

Ditto the Mt. Washington...Fireworks on a cold winter's night...

I would do Castle Hill Inn in Newport, RI. They have fireworks in the harbor. I would either have dinner at Castle Hill or Bouchard.

Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle, New Hampshire. It is a Marriott property, but very upscale and has an on-site spa. They have two different New Year's packages, one was dinner and I believe one was more of a cocktail/open bar thing.

There are few true "luxury" inns/hotels in New England outside Boston.
The places which qualify all offer outstanding dining options.
I wouldn't classify the Mt. Washington as luxury (it's a big, historic '3 star' quality hotel which has great atmosphere but unmemorable rooms).

The best inn in NE is Twin Farms in Barnard VT (close to Woodstock), but it's also among the 5 most expensive in the USA.
The Mayflower Inn is also high on the list.
The Charlotte Inn on Martha's Vineyard, Blantyre in Lenox MA, and the White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport ME are all worth considering. The latter has the best food of the bunch, and a long waiting list for most holidays.
The Equinox is a little too pedestrian to be classified as luxury IMO.

You have some good replies above I will add another suggestion..

How about going to Jackson NH (Very scenic area - great in winter) Try the Wentworth Hotel - right in the centre of the village of Jackson they have a NYear's package (see link below)

For area information go to and - the website provides a compehensive events calender & so if there are any local New years celebration events you will be able to find them

Have a great trip
