Dear phlebo3
We stayed in the Luxor last month and had a lovely mini suite in the east tower, room 18309 on the 18th floor. It did have a strip view of sorts as we could see the Excalibur and MGM Grand, but it mostly overlooked the airport. You may get more of a view from a higher floor on the other side of the building if you can get higher than the top of the Excalibur. The room itself was large with a lounge area with settee and armchair a table and chairs and a large coffee table and TV, a fridge and wash basin. The bedroom was also large with floor to ceiling windows, TV kingsize bed and good quality decor and furnishings. The bathroom was also a good size with jaccuzzi bath a large shower a WC and two hand basins. Incidently we had booked a standard room and when I telephoned the hotel to ask about an upgrade before we went I was quoted $200 per night extra, but following a tip on this site we waited until we arrived, smiled sweetly at the receptionist and were upgraded for $50 per night. The room was quiet and the lifts quick to arrive and decend. We had breakfast most mornings and one dinner at the pharaohs pheast buffet and it was excellent. The food was varied fresh and appetizing and the service pleasant and speedy. Also the surroundings were pleasant too. We had one breakfast at Excalibur buffet and it was awful. It was noisy, the surroundings were tatty (is that a word you Americans use) and there was a rather unpleasant smell. The food was luke warm and the quality and service bore no comparison to the Luxor. One morning my son wasnt feeling too well and just wanted some toast in the room, I went to the Pyramid cafe and they were most obligeing letting me have a take away portion of toast and jam with just as much grace as if I'd ordered a full breakfast. In all we were very impressed with the hotel and would certainly go there again although we would probably ask for a room with a pool view as we think this may be more pleasant. Hope you have a great trip, I am very envious sitting here in snow covered England.
best wishes
CM
