Lunch Suggestions in Atlanta, GA

My family and I are flying into Atlanta on our way to Hilton Head. We're arriving in the morning and before we drive out we've promised our kids a stop at the Coca-Cola Museum. After the sugar rush I'm anticipating that we'll need some real food before we're in the car for the four hour drive to HH. Can you make a suggestion of any place either near the museum, within fifteen or so minutes of the museum, or even on the way to Hilton Head? We'd prefer a non-chain, or at least a non-national chain. I gave into the Coke Museum, I can't take McDonalds on top of it!

thank you so much!

I would recommend Antico Pizza!! It is a really neat place. You eat in the kitchen. It's loud, it's crowded, but OOOHHHH so good.

You can actually watch them throw the dough and make the pizza. Pizzas are cooked in authentic Italian pizza ovens.

I've attached links to the restaurant and Mapquest directions.

I'm not sure where you are coming from and what you might be interested in.

If you'd like southern cooking, go to Mary Mac's Tea Room
http://www.marymacs.com/
Their desserts are very good but if you want another sugar rush go down the street about a block and get a hot glazed Krispy Kreme donut.

If you want really good burgers, go to FarmBurger in Decatur -

If you aren't very hungry as you leave Atlanta and can wait about an hour - and if you are interested in seeing the tiny town used for the set for the movie Fried Green Tomatoes - detour a bit north of Macon to Juliette GA and eat at the Whistle Stop Cafe

One more idea back in Atanta is the Varsity -

The Varsity is the one I was going to recommend just for the fun for the kids. It is an icon for the area and a lot of fun. I have taken groups of middle school kids (what was I thinking) to Atlanta on school trips and they always seem to have fun at the Varsity. I actually really like the hot dogs.

Thank you for the suggestions and the extra step of linking websites! I was actually contemplating both Farm Burger and the Whistle Stop Cafe. I'll check out the Varsity too. I was hoping for something somewhat regional...regional is great for myself and my husband, but no matter where we go the five and two year old are going to demand chicken fingers or a cheese burger option...

It's so unnerving choosing restaurants for your vacation time and dollars. I really appreciate your time in helping me!

All of the above are moderate in cost and regional. All are casual and good. Enjoy deciding :-)

And if you don't have a Krispy Kreme near you, do go in and let the kiddos watch the donut process - and enjoy a hot glazed donut. There is nothing else like it.

The room at the end of the Coca Cola Museum tour, filled with free samples of soda from many countries/continents is really interesting. However, it will definitely produce a sugar high.
