lunch near Lincoln Center
 

going to the New York Opera matinee and looking for a place for a light lunch near Lincoln Center. Fasty Food is out but something really New Yorkish would be great. Going to be sitting for three hours so don't want pasta or a heavy full course meal.

Suggestions please.

Not a terribly upscale idea, but there is an Ollie's just a block or two north of Lincoln Center on Broadway. It is primarily a Chinese noodle shop and dining room, but I find the food remarkably good and you know what they say about Chinese food not being too filling. I've eaten at a couple of the cafes across the street with the sidewalk seating and have found the two I tried pretty mediocre and very overpriced for what they were.

I love 'Sushi a go-go.' Right across from Lincoln Center. Also a few blocks up on Broadway, 'It's A Wrap."

I would splurge and go to Nougatine, the cafe area of Jean Georges in the Trump Hotel. Wonderful food. Also, Cafe Luxembourg is a classic French bistro up the street on 70th and Amsterdam that is outstanding.

All these are good ideas. At Cafe Luxenbourg you can just have a burger or salad. On the same street is Cafe Mozart which I haven't tried.

While I agree with Patrick that the food isn't haute cuisine, I find the Saloon a good place across from Lincoln Center because you can have just about anything from a salad to nachos to pizza. There's also O'Neals on that side street which is a pubby type place.

I'll second Ollies - even tho it's not "NY" food and it's a chain. Although I prefer the service and food at their 44th street venue - the one by Lincoln Center is a good "eat"
