Lunch in Boston

We will be arriving in Boston about 1:30 to rent a car in Government Center. Then we will be driving to Ogunquit, ME. We will be starving after our flight. Is there a place on the way out of town for chowder and lobster that won't cost the prices of touristy places. We have been to them before. Chelsea? Or somewhere else? Thanks.

Near the airport. Not exactly on the way out of town, but not terribly out of the way.

If you are arriving by plane, why are you renting from Government Center?

Alternatively, stop here on the way to Government Center:

Or just eat something else and get your fill of lobster and chowder in Ogunquit at Barnacle Billy's.

I would just grab anything you can find for lunch and head the hell out of town before you get so delayed that you are in rush hour traffic.

Get outta town, pronto. Eat on the plane. First stop, Geno's Chowder House right by the water in Portsmouth.

They might be arriving by train.

Never mind—I re-read OP and it says "after our flight"!

Not renting at airport because its $300 more if we do. We save money by taking a cab to Government Center.

Seawitch on route 1N in Peabody is good.

Okay... Given that you are arriving around 1:30 (flight arrival I presume?), then I'd kind of recommend just grabbing something quick.

You will have more opportunity than you may even care to to have lobster and chowder in Ogunquit. Barnacle Billy's is simply a better lobster shack than anything in Boston. I mean, Yankee Lobster is good, but it is cramped, is in an industrial building and there is no view or ambiance. Belle Isle is barely better (though you can watch planes take off and land). The food is good at both, but why bother if you are going to Ogunquit?

If you really wanted some chowder, you could go to Union Oyster House at Government Center. I have not been in years and can't guarantee they aren't simply resting on their laurels, but it is super historic.

But I'd just decide to give up one memorable meal, get out of town, and stop on the way.
