Luau in Oahu
We're going to Oahu in July with our 2 late-teenage daughters. Which luau do you recommend? Not sure they're up for spending an entire day at PCC unless it is really worth it. My husband and I are staying an extra week on business and will go to Germaine's luau as part of the package. Do we repeat Germaine's for the girls, do the PCC, or what about the one at Ko Olina? Help, please!

Did you look at the PCC website? I thought I saw that you could do the luau by itself.....We were there several years ago and they had many different packages to choose from.

Skip Germaine's for a second visit. I was there recently. Food is very unimpressive, getting drinks is a hassle, and the show is only moderately entertaining. IMO.

If you want any kind of tropical alcoholic drinks with the luau, Paradise Cove Luau is the one; I don't think the Polynesian Cultural Center has gone to serving alcohol yet, and would be suprised if they had, since it's Mormon operated.

Go to PCC. You don't have to spend the entire day there. I recommend that you do, but there are some that just go for the Ali'i Luau and Horizon's show.
The Horizon's is by far the best Polynesian show in all of Hawaii. The Ali'i Luau is as good a show as Paradise Cove or Germaine's. The one thing that makes it better than the others is that if you book the Ali'i Luau package at PCC, the seating for Horizon's is much better. www.polynesia.com |
The show at PCC is wonderful, but frankly the food in both the regular restaurant and the luau are mediocre steam table fare at best. Both terrible...and you can't even get a glass of wine to cut the taste.

The Royal Hawaiian luau is also an option. We were there in October 2003. Food and drink was decent; entertainment was good.
