Lowest Car Rental Rates In Hawaii

Looking for lowest car rental rates in Hawaii. Particularly interested in a "fun" vehicle such as a convertible or SUV. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try Budget or Alamo first. There are smaller local owned places too.

We rented a car in Maui and paid for a full tank of gas--and we only used a quarter of the tank and the gas there is very expensive--a big mistake. check on this.

Never pay for a full tank of gas in advance. You can't win by doing this unless you return the car empty and obviously you can't do that.

Another caution about rental cars - on numerous occasions I have reserved a compact car and when I arrive to pick it up the rental company tries to upgrade me to a larger car. They have told me that a compact won't have enough room, that it won't have enough power to go up to the top of Haleakala etc. When I refuse the upgrade they give me the larger car anyway (for the compact price) because they don't have a compact available.

For the last few years, I have used the following website which is great because they compare all of the rental car co's rates for you and have no hastle reservations without a credit card. After shopping around at other individual sites, I found their rates to be excellent: http://www.DiscountHawaiiCarRental.com

we went with alamo and thought their prices were reasonable - we had a jeep which was a lot of fun!

about the gas...the guy at alamo told us that if we aren't close to being empty upon returning...that we can fill 'er up again and they will credit back the price we paid in the beginning for the full tank. just fyi...

aloha!
