LOWES CORONADO IN SAN DIEGO ?

Planning a week in September in San Diego and are considering staying at Lowes Coronado Bay Resort. If anyone has any advise on this hotel, please let me know.

Stayed at the Loews Coronado about 4 years ago. It is a very expensive facility. Very isolated, so renting an automobile is a must. We did not think the hotel facility and food merited the cost (and attitude). Found it a bit pretentious and definitely overpriced.

Our room's view was of a staircase and a small green courtyard with the rooms across the courtyard looking into our window.

We would not return.

You might want to consider Le Meridian on Coronado. Wonderful views, very nice rooms with great showers. I think they honor the Entertainment Card. You need to be very clear when making your reservation that you want an unobstructed view.

We stayed at Loews last year and enjoyed it very much.
It is off the beaten path so a car is needed. If you are members of Loews First club you get a small gift in your room and free upgrades (sometimes). You can get this info through their web sight: www.loews.com. Ask for a room with a view of the water and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Hi - a better bet for Coronado would be the Hotel Del Coronado -- a historic hotel on the beach - fine dining, character and class! Rental car a must -- many other things to do across the bridge! I agree with your first respondent -- Loews has a tendency to be a bit pretentious -- Hotel Del is pricey but well worth it. Have a great time!

Loew's in Coronado is a very nice place with a beautiful view and quiet romantic. It is NOT pretentious and you could have a fine time there.

However, it IS a great distance from Coronado, like ten to fifteen minutes down the strand and unless you plan on staying in the hotel and using the facilities the best location in town is the Hotel Del Coronado. It is an old historic hotel but does have a newer wing. The rooms are NOT as nice as the Lowes but you walk out the front door into the lovely town and to dinner at restaurants of fine quality and you walk out the back door to the beach...............it is neat.

A very lovely compromise is the La Meridian, which may have come under another ownership now, is closer to town and a beautiful beautiful hotel with large rooms and fine food. That would be my choice !!

Good luck and remember when in Coronado several of the nice (Nordstroms) shopping centers have FREE shuttles into San Diego.

Have a great time. We are there very frequently. If you stay in town a car is NOT a necessity at all.

Joyce - My sister and I stayed at the Loews a couple of years ago and LOVED it! The rooms were beautiful and I did not feel as if it was pretentious. It is isolated, but we liked that. We rented bikes there and rode to the main strip and it is right on a marina. I would definitely go back!

Hotel Del Coronado is the place to be if you want to stay on Coronado island. Others may have better rooms but for location and ambience, the "Del" can not be beaten. I live in the San Diego area. a car is NOT a must. You can walk to anywhere on Coronado of interest. A great way to go to downtown San Diego is via the ferry. Downtown San Diego is a must do/see. Great walking, shopping, restaurants etc. Make sure you visit Gaslamp area. It is about a mile from the hotel "Del" to the ferry terminus. You can walk, take a taxi or bus. Coronado is very safe so don't worry about walking. Make sure that you take the ferry that goes to the foot of Broadway. There are several boats but the official ferry is the way to go. Cheaper and better located.
