Lower East Side Tenement Museum

Looking for suggestions from anyone who has visited this museum--is one tour preferable over another? Should we try more than one? I'm thinking the Confino tour would be more interesting to my 15-year-old. Also, I've heard we should buy tickets in advance because they are frequently sold out (we'll be there the beginning on Jan.)? Thanks for any thoughts.

I believe that the museum is seperate from the tours. The museum is made up of four immigrant apartments from different time periods. I would definitely suggest buying in advance because the rooms are small and they can only take a certain amount of people per tour.

Philip: Thanks for your reply. OK, I will plan to get tickets ahead/online. Has anyone taken the Confino tour which they say is geared more toward kids?

I have taken the Confino tour, there are various historic interpretors role-playing the parts of early immigrants in NYC, you get to visit an "immigrant" tenement apartment, with all the furniture and outfits etc. Kids will love it -- they encourage visitors to participate in the role playing. If memory serves the role play is 30-45 min, the rest of the time you are taken on a guided tour through the tenement museum -- I loved it, they kept the furnishings/lighting/etc quite eerily real. Have fun.

Pat: Thanks for your input--you sold me! I just purchased tickets online so we'll be sure when we get there that we're able to take the tour.

OK, you've piqued my interest - what's the URL for online info, and where is the museum located? How about a phone number?
