Lower cost web fares

Is there any truth to the notion that web air fares are less expensive to purchase on certain days of the week. As in a Monday opposed to Sat. or Sunday? (not travel on those days, but to purchase.) Thanks.

Lately the best fares are usually flying Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday.....but this varies depending on where you're traveling to. Vegas and Orlando have different rules, usually.

travelocity.com is a good place to check the rules. Without putting in your dates of travel, you can just do a general search of airfares, it will pull up a calendar and you can see the days that the lower fares are available. You can also sign up to be e-mailed when your destination goes on sale.

Oops, sorry , didn't read your question correctly.

No, the day of the week that you take out the credit card and actually PURCHASE the ticket doesn't matter. Unless of course, you reserve a ticket on a monday when its on sale. Then at midnight the sale ends. You call back on Tuesday with your credit card to finalize your purchase and the price has gone up because the sale has ended.

I think that's the opposite of what Pam is asking. I don't believe the prices are different on those days because I get email updates when fares change and they don't coincide with particular days of the week.

Yes that's correct Pam. Traditionally the lowest traveler traffic is on those days therefore there were discounts at that time (rem rules that require Sat. stayover) but airlines are tanking so bad lately they are offering steep discounts on most fares just to get people traveling. I got a great deal on Sat for travel to east coast - I don't ever rem. finding cheap fares on a Sat. and that's the lowest I've ever paid for a rountrip ticket that route. Now is the time to fly but of course with the economy so bad some people still can't afford it!
