The Putah Creek Café is right across the street from the Buckhorn and is run by the same management. It's a funky sort of place that draws big breakfast crowds on the week-end, but lunch is usually pretty busy as well.

The cooler weather is lovely!

I'm not up to a GTG for a while--had a gastric bleed from ulcers two weeks ago and am still a bit off color--but perhaps in the fall.

Oh Underhill, I am so sorry! No, you certainly do not need to worry about a GTG or even eating a lot of food right now. You just need to take care of yourself.

Thank you for the info regarding the Putah Creek Cafe, I never knew about it. Sounds like a great place to go to.

Underhill, best wishes to you. Baby yourself and try to relax and just enjoy life as much as you can.

Dear Seahaven, although you said you are not going to post here again I imagine that you will read this thread.

So, let me explain something to you.

We all have different ideas about what kind of food we like. Cobbie and I like the same kind of food and restaurants. As for OWJ, let me tell you something. Although she has not been to Vacaville she and I (and her husband) are very good friends. And they and I like the same kind of food. She also knows a lot about Vacaville.

I will assume that I caused your anger because I made the comment that I would imagine that they (the Hula Hut) would not be in business long. That was probably a comment I could have left unsaid. So for that I apologies. I certainly have no intention of trying to put people that have put their heart and soul besides thier money into a business out of business. I had read about this restaurant in the Vallejo Times Herald and I did not think it would be the type of restaurant I would enjoy.

Cobbie's "review" verified that fact to me. I do not like overly salty food and I do not like greasy food.

But then again I do not like "fast food", McDonalds etc. That is just me. But we all know that mcDonalds is not going to go out of business!

And it is obvious that you and I do not enjoy the same type of eating establishments, I say that as the ones you said you enjoy in Benicia I really do not care for.

But that is alright, thank goodness we all have different taste. The world would be boring if we all liked the very same thing.

I wish you many enjoyable meals at whatever restaurants you enjoy. And again I apologize if I upset you because of any comment I made. But may I suggest that IF to do decide to stay on Fodor's and enjoy it that you do realize that everyone on Fodor's has different opinions and ideas. We share them and in most part respect each other differences even if we don't always agree with each other.

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

Especially fodorites who don't appreciate outsiders butting in on their on line luv chats.

Dear LoveItaly:

I live here in the Delta, about 20 minutes south of Sac. A GTG would be great. In fact, I had been thinking of a Sacramento GTG and I would be willing to have it at my place. Let me know what you think. I know there will be a SF GTG right after Thanksgiving, but I don't know if that would work for us.

The Buckhorn---what great memories. My hubby and I went there on our first date in 1996!!!

Hi MichelleY, ah the Delta, use to have our boat in the Delta. Still miss my boat!!

Michelle, the SF GTG is really not in SF. It is in Yountville the Friday after Thanksgiving. That is a really difficult time for me to go to a GTG as besides Thanksgiving it is my daughters birthday weekend. And we often have family come for the long weekend. So I am going to have to "wait and see" what is going on before I know whether or not that GTG will work for me.

Regarding the Delta, what a nice invitation but wouldn't "somewhere" along I-80 be easier for everyone to get to? Just a thought.

BTW, where in the Delta are you? I always wanted to live for at least a year on our boat in the Delta but that never happened unfortunatly.

When Underhill is feeling better we can hopefully arrange a GTG.

And the Buckhorn, guess it is bringing back memories for both of us. It is funny how one can "forget" about a place until someone mentions it.

If you are even coming through Vacaville let me know Michelle. Take good care and enjoy your beautiful Delta, September was always one of my favorite months.

Dear LoveItaly:

We live between Clarksburg & Courtland. We farm wine grapes, so we are starting to get real busy. Thanksgiving is not great for us. Family etc. Have you ever been to a GTG? About how many attend?

Keep me posted.

I sure started something, eh?

Regarding the Buckhorn -there is now one in Napa and also in Walnut Creek.

I'm up for a Sac/Vacaville GTG.

Hi Cobbie, me too... so both you and I are a "problem" are we not, LOL!!

MichelleY, my maternal grandfather had vineyards in Lodi decades ago. He was from Germany. We must all get together at some point. I know that autumn is a busy time for you,

I have not been to an offical Fodor GTG. Think that the average one has about 12 or so participants.
I believe the GTG the day after Thanksgiving in Yountville has about 24 people.

I have met Fodorites on a one to one basis however, and I have to say each time has been a joy!

The latest Fodorite I had dinner with was Cobbie that started this thread. It was a delightful evening and I look forward to getting together with her again.

Michelle, I also look forward to meeting you..you are just east of Vacaville actually..north of Lodi..I don't know if I have been in your area or not. We must work something out.

And cobbie, you and I will have to work on staying out of trouble, LOL!

Or, as you suggested, a GTG at the MonaLisa in SF? That might be possible! Love the idea.

Kal, you must try the new restaurant in VV...you two would like it I believe.

The Yountville GTG is almost impossible for me to attend due to it being Thanksgiving weekend. Add in my DD birthday (yes, she has one every year, LOL) and possible family members being here for the long weekend...well not really a good time for me unfortuantly.

We need to set something up. Hope it can be when Underhill can join us.

Take care!

There is also the Vintage Cafe in the Fairfield Suisun Countryside area. Amazing polenta!

Well this is an old thread!

Yes the Vintage Cafe has good food also. I first went to it when one of the owner's of Saltato's recommended it as their restaurant was going to be closed the night I needed reservations.
We had wonderful food and a great evening.
