Louisville, KY
Just found out that I have to fly into Louisville Friday afternoon. I will be tied up on business Friday & Saturday, but free Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Have a 2:30 flight back to NJ.
Won't know where I'll be staying until tomorrow afternoon, but probably somewhere between Louisville & Ft. Knox. Looking for a nice restaurant for dinner Saturday evening, and somewhere close to the airport for brunch Sunday AM. ((b)) |
There isn't much out near the airport, but maybe some of the Louisville people will know of a nearby brunch. Do not under any circumstances eat breakfast at the Maker's Mark lounge in the airport. I made that mistake a few weeks ago and it was awful.
For Saturday night, I would head in Bardstown Road from 265(Watterson Expressway). There are many trendy restaurants near downtown on Bardstown. They would remind you of Paula's. |
If you don't have a room yet, I would bid ($45-$47) on Priceline (3 star I think)for downtown and you should get the Galt House on the river. Louisville is not that big and you should be able to get to the airport Sunday in 20 minutes. www.galthouse.com
Within a few blocks of the Galt House is 4th Street Live which is a pedestrian only area with restaurants/clubs etc. http://www.4thstlive.com/ Bardstown Road is still an option from the Galt House and easy to reach by car. Perhaps we should try to have a mini-gtg Saturday night if anyone is available. |
Well, I'm staying in Elizabethtown whether I like it or not. :-(
Probably do some sort of breakfast/brunch Sunday morning, and it will not be the airport. Any places downtown? ((b)) |
Budman, you're coming to my hometown and you're not calling me? I'm SO disappointed! There's a little spot off Frankfor Avenue called the North End Cafe which does the MOST divine brunch. Also, Lynn's Paradise Cafe is really famous for their breakfasts and brunches. Also, you can call ahead and make a reservation!
http://www.lynnsparadisecafe.com/index.html Now, I think it would be really nice if we joined you, don't you? kybourbon and I are lovely company, so is Mr LLindaC, not to mention Jean, Carolyn and Hattie.... If you went there, it would be only about a 10 min drive to the airport. The airport is smack dab in the middle of the city, but there are no good restaurants close to it! |
I'm game. Sounds like fun. Would love meeting you all and seeing kybourbon again. Devon's probably back at school?
10:00am Sunday OK, you pick the place? ((b)) |
I have to be in Cincinnati Sunday at 2, but maybe I can take the scenic route through Louisville.
In Etown, you are only 20-25 minutes from historic Bardstown, home of several bourbon distilleries among other things. How about Talbot Tavern for dinner there? http://www.bardstowntourism.com/main.htm |
I played for the reopening of Talbott Tavern a few years ago. We went back there with Rick's family and the food was AWFUL! There were 8 of us and none of us liked our food. However, there's a place down the road that is supposed to be excellent:
http://www.rosemarkhaven.com/dinners.html Couple of foodies on another forum said the dinners are wonderful. Bardstown is a great town. Since Budman's flight is at 2:30, he's going to have to brunch around 10, don't you think? He still hasn't invited us... |
Hey an invite! How about Lynn's at 10? I'll make the reservation!
|
I'll second - or third, or whatever - Lynn's Paradise Cafe! I'm jealous just thinking about it! :)
|
My husband will be in KS this weekend for the football game; so I would love to have brekkie at Lynn's and see everyone , again...can I come, tooooooo? :-D
|
Two Louisville GTG's in less than 90 days, and I'm missing them both!?
:( Best wishes, Rex |
No Jean, you need to stay home and work on that tiny little show you sponsor ;-)
Budman, will you send me an email so I can communicate with you? We need an RSVP obviously! I will buy you a Bloody Mary! Do you know how much fun we are, btw? RSVP: [email protected] |
Ooh, reading this thread has made me hungry! My husband was a visiting professor at U of L in 2001 and I loved visiting him there. Can anybody tell me if the Argentine restaurant on Bardstown Road that opened in 2001 is still around?
What about the Homemade Pie & Ice Cream Kitchen? I would kill or die for their caramel cake right now! :D |
LlindaC - You are in charge! I have everyone's e-mails and can send them to you later tonight.
|
ej...Do you mean Palermo? Still going strong and getting rave reviews. We're really lucky to have many great restaurants here. And Homemade Pie Kitchen added a HUGE second location just a few blocks from me in St Matthews. I steer CLEAR. kybourbon can easily get to Cinci in time, btw!
|
Looking forward to this last minute GTG and getting to meet the "fun bunch"!!! I'll drop you an e-mail when I get home this evening. Cheers!!! ((b))
|
Yep...Homemade Pie & Ice Cream is going strong. I love their Georgia cake and their grape sherbet, but not at the same time... ;-)
See everyone at Lynn's on Sunday. Judy |
I've e-mailed links to this thread to npurpleh2, Carolyn, and indytravel.
Budman- Will you be checking any luggage? |
Yes, I will have checked luggage with the current "no liquids, no toothpaste" rules. ((b))
