Lots of Charleston Advice Needed
We just ofung out last night that our clogging team will be competing in Charleston July 1 and 2. I am calling today to make reservations at the Embassy Suites for our competition dates. This hotel is the host hotel for the event so we will definitely be there July 1 and 2. However, I would like to turn this into a min vacation for the girls. We can continue to stay at the Embassy Suites or move for a few days. I need suggestions for another place to stay, things to do, restuarants. Really anything you would like to share about Charleston would be great. My girls are 12 and 15 and love to travel and explore new areas. We are very open to any suggestions. Thanks!

Search for GoTravel's charleston trip report on this forum. A wealth of info.

Type in "Charleston" in the search box above and choose "South Carolina" and read away.
LOTS of advice already there for you - waiting for you to read :-) |
I just made reservations at the Embassy Suites/airport. We can only get the clogging rate for June 30-July 1 and July 2. So, we will definitely change hotels for the 3rd and 4th. So, can anyone point me in a direction for our second hotel choice?

It depends on what you want to do: The Doubletree is in a great location to tour the historic area. Easy walking to all downtown restaraunts.
One nice thing about Charleston is that it is much safer than it used to be! ( Common sense should still be used, of course!) If you want to spend time at the beach, I suggest you look into either the Holiday Inn at Folly Beach, or the Isle of Palms. There are two places there: one is a Holiday Inn Express that is decent and the other is in Wild Dunes and it is fantastic ( but more pricey). Have fun! |
The Andrew Pinckney Inn is moderately priced and a great deal in a fantastic location right behind the Doubletree.
The Doubletree used to be my favorite until I found the Andrew Pinckney was just as nice or nicer, includes breakfast on a fabulous rooftop terrace, and is much less expensive. |
A harbor cruise that goes past Fort Sumter and a tour of Drayton Hall for some history. The Old Market for some shopping. Anson's for some She Crab Soup. A stroll along the Battery for some architecture.

Thanks so much. I guess I need to quickly make a choice about the 3rd and 4th in order to find an available room. I'm thinking a beach area would be great for those days.

GoTravel, I'm trying to find your trip report but I'm not having any luck. Do you remember the title of your thread?

I found the thread. I decided to print it out so I can take the time to read it and mark the items I don't want to forget. Thanks so much!
