LOS ANGELES......WHAT PARTS TO LIVE IN......

What parts of LA are safe and decent for a student to live (and any surrounding areas)? Need housing quickly, already in area, don't know where to look exactly. Roommates or solo on a budget.

What school will you be attending? Los Angeles is a huge city. You could at least start out looking, trying to live near campus.

In very general terms, the West side (Westwood, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, Brentwood, West L.A., Pacific Palisades). However, these are also the priciest parts of town.

Is this student in a college or university? If so, proximity to campus might be an important concern. Is on-campus student housing available?

Also, is price of housing a concern? The areas I have listed are expen$ive!

You started researching back in May but you still don't know where to look?
Start with your son's school, they have lots of housing information.

Next, go to craigslist.org as there are always UCLA students looking for roommates and the area is accessible with good bus service. Just read the roommates-wanted section carefully and don't get scammed. Make sure lease is in writing, legit, etc. DailyBruin.com is the UCLA paper and they'll have classified ads too.
