Los Angeles - shuttle/limo/taxi help
 

Does anyone know of a service offered in Los Angeles that will pick you up at your hotel, drop you off at a desination i.e. Warner Bros, pick up again, drive you to Hollywood leave you for a while, pick up again and drop off somewhere else etc throughout the day?

I have searched the internet for such a service and have had no luck. I do not want to hire a car and as public transport is a bit iffy thought maybe a shuttle type service may be good. Can only find limos who hire by the hour, not so good paying $45 an hour for waiting time. Does anyone have any thoughts? Also is there a shuttle that goes from Santa Monica to Disneyland? So we can choose are own return time rather than going on a tour and being limited to their schedule. I know this could prove expensive but would rather do this than ride the buses and take forever.

We are going in January, so could be a bit cold and we would like to get to our desinations quickly. Hope someone can help, not having any luck on the net with this. Thanks Schnauzer

If you want customized service, ie: choosing your own schedules and stops, then you need to either rent a car or hire a limousine/car service.

viptoursandcharters.com has "Theme Park Transportation" shuttle services to theme parks from LA area hotels. You can call them to inquire about their schedules.

No Santa Monica-Disneyland shuttle-- we're talking a distance of 40 miles (64 km) traveling over several cities and crossing a county line. lvk's suggestion is the best one, to be honest, unless you pony up the money to hire a limo or simply <b>rent a car</b>. The drive from Santa Monica is not hard.

Prime Time Shuttle will take you to Disneyland, or you could taxi back to LAX and take airportBus.com

takemyMotherplease is a tour service that will take you wherever you want to go for a day, but is kinda pricey I think, especially if you are just gonna have your tourguide &quot;wait&quot; while you do the WB tour etc.

You might try the MTA I think that's what LA's transit authority is called. For example, during the summer, there is a bus that takes you from downtown Lon Beach (not where you will be!!) to the Getty in the morning and returns in the evening for something like a $1.50. It also, goes on various days to the Gene Autry, LACMA and a few other places. There may be similar services from LA. Also, try googling the LA tourist web site and the various destinations themselves. For example, try the Disneyland website, it is just possible they have a bus that goes to one of the hotels or some kind of transportation available from a central site. It may be available and you may not need a taxi, but unless you find someone on this board who had done this, you may have to keep researching. Good luck. I know I don't always want to drive to a destination nor do I want the expense of a taxi if something cheaper is available.

Perhaps, you have considered this already. Excuse me, if I missed it, but have you considered taking a tour? You can pick them up at various hotels and they include a lot of destinations you have in mind. Granted, you would not have the flexibility, but it would provide you the transportation. Again, good luck to you.

I keep adding thoughts. If you find solutions to your transportation problem, please post them here. I often have guests that might be interested in a non-taxi mode of getting around LA and seeing the sights when my car is not available to them. Annetti

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I realise that a taxi is probably what I am looking for but was hoping for something a &quot;little more upmarket&quot; maybe, and more reliable. I don't know, maybe Los Angeles taxis are more reliable than Sydney taxis!!

I am travelling with a non driving son (too young) don't know the US road rules and don't feel comfortable driving in a city on the &quot;wrong&quot; side of the road for me, without someone riding shotgun who can help with keeping me on the &quot;right side of the road&quot;. If no other options are available then we will take a tour, it just appears they come home quite early, mind you it is hard to find the exact closing times for Disneyland even on their own website. I realise the time change summer vs winter etc. I can't imagine DL actually closes at 6,00 pm in winter, or does it? The tours seem to return by 7.00-7.30 and I thought this might cut potential riding time down. It seems strange there are not more regular shuttle type transports from major areas to DL, the airport seems the major place they go from. I have looked at the suggested web pages and have contacted the VIP tour company by email.

Still researching, maybe I might pluck up courage to drive to DL but not around town.

We only have a limited time (who doesn't?) and can't find a tour that fits in Warner Bros as well as the Hollywood thing. I am rather independant and don't like being herded around in a group. I want my cake and to eat it too!! Thanks again for the suggestions. Schnau

i guess I would take airportbus or a shuttle to Disney, stay there the first few days...then shuttle or bus to Universal Studios area (Hilton or Sheraton if in your price range). From Universal you can hop a quick bus or $15-each-way taxi to WB. You can metro subway down to Hollywood, the walk of fame, the El Capitan theatre.

At the end of your trip it would be another shuttle to the airport.

On Sat or Sun when the traffic is much lighter, you might want to rent a car to give it a try. A drive from, say, Universal out through Beverly Hills and onward to Santa Monica/beaches would be a breeze on a Saturday or Sunday morning...L.A. doesn't wake up until noon on Sundays.

hi--some people have no problem driving on the &quot;wrong&quot; side of the road, but the mere fact that it concerns you so much is not to be discounted! When we were in the UK--which for me is driving on the &quot;wrong&quot; side :)-- there is no way I was going to let absent-minded husband drive me around and I was certainly not going to do it!! Use taxis or pay big bucks for a car service or take bus tours to the places you want to go....You will be more relaxed. As a young friend's father says, &quot;If a problem can be solved with money, be grateful&quot; Your problem, it would seem, can be easily solved with the money it takes to pay for the peace of mind.

FYI...Primetime Shuttle is quoting $131 EACH WAY from Santa Monica to Disneyland.

Is there a Gray Line with get-on, get-off service, where you pay for a day (or 24 hours) and can get off at any stop? Maybe this will work for Schnauzer?
