Hi this will be like my third time in L.A. but I came many years ago, and with more money, stayed in the Four Seasons Beverly Hills. But this time is different
From this hotel, which is the best
to dicover L.A., malls, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Disney.
Marriott Los Angeles Downtown
Westin Bonaventure
Renaissance Hollywood Spa
And even if is not in L.A.
Sheraton Delfina.

If you know a name of a hotel that you think is the best for me with my kids. Pleas tell me.

And for 5 days do you recomend me to rent a car for 230 dollars?

How about the Hollywood -Holiday Inn? Centraly located and reasonably priced. As for a car, you have to have wheels in LA

Can't help with hotels, I stay with private, but I have attended many events at the Bonaventure downtown and at the Renaissance in Hollywood, and neither are any good for going out and walking around the neighborhood.

The Bonaventure is in a dead street where there is nothing for pedestrians.

The Renaissance is just up from Hollywood Blvd, a grotty street where you have a few of the glitzy theaters to one side, the rest is just grotty and so drab that you don't want to be walking around.

Maybe pick a hotel in Santa Monica - the Loews (kinda swank, might be in the same price range as the two mentioned above which aren't exactly budget hotels either?) or another one where you can easily walk to the Pier and to Third Street Promenade, a pedestrian-only stretch with restaurants of all kinds, street performers, shops, places to sit...

After you know where you’ll be staying, use Priceline for a car, I just recently had one (turned out it was from Hertz! - they don’t tell you until the deal is done) for $20 per day including all the fees and taxes, and that was from an airport location (BUR) where they usually charge a bit more! I boldy bit $15.- and got it.

The things/places on your list are geographically separated by many miles. It would be difficult to pick one hotel that would be "best" for all the driving required.

Maybe a little more information would help.

When is your trip?

How many, how old are your kids?

What car rental company has provided the quote you mentioned? Or are you looking for a recommendation in that budget range?

Can you prioritize the things you want to see/do so that we'll have a better idea of what you want out of this trip?

I would suggest looking into Priceline for your accommodations as well.

Greater Los Angeles provides some of the best bargains in hotels.

If you haven't used Priceline before, please come back and get some tips. A number of Fodorites are very experienced in using Priceline and I had learnt how to bid from Fodors.

Also make sure you read biddingfortravel.com before making any bid.

Can't say I agree with Dalai Lama on many of his comments.
Split your stay, if going to Disneyland for more than one day, also Orange County might be better for accessing malls as well, look for Nordstrom Rack, Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza are in Orange County. There are lots of good value family friendly hotels down there.

As for downtown, it is convenient to stay downtown and use the Red Line (subway) to Hollywood and Universal Studios. Often you do get good deals downtown, but be sure to add in the parking charges if you must rent a car.

You might find something better near the airport (El Segundo or Manhattan Beach) where there are suite chains such as the Embassy Suites or others. Just avoid Century Blvd.

We just returned from a stay at the Sheraton Delfina. It is a nice place, in a great location in Santa Monica. It's a couple of blocks from the beach. They offer complimentary self-parking, plus valet parking. Also, they have a shuttle that leaves on the hour and goes within a mile of the hotel.

L.A. is a driving city, unfortunately. I can't imagine being there without a car.

We have also stayed at the less expensive Marriott Courtyard in Marina del Rey.
