Los Angeles Metro Rail System
 

I will eventually need to travel from Santa Monica to the Rose Bowl and I'd like to avoid taking the car as much as possible. I need advice on taking the Metro, or any other alternative.

It appears I may be able to take the Red or Green line and connect with the Gold line, but I'm not quite sure which stations (if any) would be the best.

I live in LA and I'm not aware of any train that stops near the Rosebowl.

I guess I should add that the Gold Line does indeed go to Pasadena, but no stops out by the Rosebowl. Try www.mta.net for your route. You might have to take a taxi from the train station if you want to go to the bowl.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply I was looking for a station AT the Rose Bowl. It would be nice, but I'd be shocked if there was. Rather, something just in the general vicinity that I might be able to catch a cab or bus.

I'm pretty sure the closest Metro train station to the Rose Bowl is Holly Street on the Gold Line. We've actually walked from that area to the Rose Bowl (perhaps 2 miles?), but saner people would take a cab.

The larger problem is getting from Santa Monica to the Metro train as Santa Monica is nowhere near any of the light rail lines.

I'd research L.A.'s metro system and Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus system to find the best combination. Research your return options too if in late evening.

Or think about staying in Manhattan Beach instead of Santa Monica. The Green Line begins/ends in M.B. From M.B. to the Rose Bowl: Green Line to Blue Line to Red Line to Gold Line. Total travel time: 90-100+ minutes depending on connection times. Bonus: The transfer point from Red to Gold is at the historical Union Station in downtown L.A.

Sat and Sun, Santa Monica to the Rose Bowl is not too bad a drive. It's all freeway and generally no tie-ups on weekends.
