Los Angeles- Koreatown?

How is this area, any opinions? Is it getting gentrified and semi-hip or is it still totally dangerous and slummy? Son just graduated from college, wants to move to LA, and feels he cannot afford West LA, Culver City, Loa Feliz, SilverLake, Santa Monica but does not want to live in Pasadena/Glendale/Burbank. Thanks for any insights.

I have many friends who car pool sons to Loyola High School in Koreatown near Pico and Normandie Ave.(from the SoBay)and they say they get in and out of there, but are not afraid. Not to say that apts. near Wilshire Blvd. might not be better.

Here is an aerial view of the school.

Is his job in downtown LA? If looking for lower rents, in a safe area, my sons lived in "North" Redondo Beach, near the 405 Freeway for years after college. Daily Breeze newspaper online should have listings. One son always had a roommate to share the cost.
