Los Angeles - Hotel for Family
 

Can you recommend a suitable hotel in Los Angeles for a family of 4, close to all the tourist attractions?

Just got back from LA. We stayed at a brand new Comfort Inn at 2010 North Highland in Hollywood 323.874.4300. Within walking distance to Chinese Mann Theater, Museums and if you decide to take the bus #217 you can visit the Farmer's Market. There's also a brand new shopping complex in the area.

Would not stay near Hollywood as the area can be kind of shady.

Hi. In response to the message about the Comfort Inn on Highland Ave. How safe is the area around the hotel and how far of a walk to the Chinese Mann Theater? Thanks.

It's about three long blocks to the intersection of Highland and Hollywood. The hotel is about two months old. We found it by accident and yes, you have to be careful in the area at night. We were about to leave the area but when we saw the 'Grand Opening' banner, we decided to check it out. There's a metro station on the Hollywood & Highland intersection and buses run along Hollywood Ave to Farmer's Market, La Brea Tar Pits and other museums.

Regarding the Hollywood Highland area at night. We live about 3 blocks west of this area and since the new complex is opened...it's really seen an upswing. Generally speaking walking East down Hollywood Blvd, past Vine is where I wouldn't walk, but west of Highland I have walked alone many times after dark, ( I am a small female). This area has been extensively renovated and now is some of the hottest property in all of L.A County. <BR>Welcome to LA.

Thanks Thyra and Lisa for your responses. I am planning on taking my family to Disneyland and Hollywood in June. The Comfort Inn I can get two double bed room for $119.00. The main thing I was looking for was hotel in a secure location,50 - 100 range and clean. Do either of you know anything about the Orchid Suites at Highland and Hollywood Blvd. Also what would you suggest seeing in one day or two day stays. Thanks.

Hi, Jane!<BR><BR>I was glad to see a few posters say something positive about Hollywood after an early warning to you, because we, too, found it very much-improved over the situation there ten years ago, and our family of four (children 8 and 10) didn't have a single uneasy moment, day or night. We were extremely happy with our accommodation, in a little place in a cul-de-sac behind Grauman's Chinese... I think the new Kodak Theatre cuts across this cul-de-sac now. The hotel was called the Liberty, and the reason I am recommending it to you is that it is run by a charming Asian lady who just loves kids.... even though she quoted us a very-reasonable price of $55 for a room for the four of us, when she saw our kids she instantly upgraded us to the suite at the back, which had a kitchen and dining room. Not a cent extra... and she spent the rest of our holiday giving little gifts to the girls. Definitely worth considering, and a real money-saver.

I'm sorry I can't respond to your question about the Orchid Suites maybe someone else can. All I can say is that the Comfort Inn was very clean and had a decent continental breakfast. During our stay we visited the Kodak Theatre, Mann theatre and Hollywood Entertainment Museum. The H. Ent. Museum had the original sets for Star Trek and Cheers. We also took the bus and went to La Brea Tar Pits and adjoining museum which we found interesting. There are other museums at Hollywood Blvd which we didn't visit Ripley's Believe It or Not and Hollywood Wax Museum. I hope the area thrives and families can stay in clean affordable hotels. I found the locals to be more helpful than the bus drivers in giving information.
