Los Angeles/Hollywood Sites

Hi Fodorites. I have a free day in LA while joining hubby on a work trip next week. Haven't done the Hollywood scene in many years. Do you have recommendations for maybe one studio tour, strolling down the walk of fame, maybe lunch at the farmer's market/Grove area? (I'm not even sure if that's what it's called.) Will be a lone female with rental car coming into town from the LAX area.

I don't think there are enough changes in the Hollywood area over the years to warrant the traffic mess that you will encounter driving in from LAX. I'd stay westside if I were you. Maybe a drive up through Malibu? Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Manhattan Beach all have pleasant dining and shopping. The Getty Center would not be too bad a drive if you do it between 10am and 3pm. Sony is the only studio tour that is westside and wouldn't be a pain in the ess to get to.
You might consider a Starline tour, they pick up at hotels near LAX and you wouldn't have to worry about the driving and parking.

Take a Grayline tour... no traffic, parking, and you can hop off at various sites...

Well, I was there 30 years ago and really don't remember much. Have been to the beaches, etc. as son is at Otis. Just wanted to be a real tourist for a day. The tours sound good. any more info available or specific suggestions? Can't change hotel locations due to hubby's work. At least they are paying!

Are you interested in getting a ticket to see Leno or another TV taping? It is fun if you have never tried it.
