IMO, the two most overrated attractions in L.A. area are the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Venice Beach unless you're into people dressed as Super Heroes in an overcrowded environment and homeless tents.

One of our favorite hikes is Ferndell to the hiking path that takes you to the Griffith Observatory (see link below). The Trails cafe is a good place to stop either before or after the hike to the Observatory.
