Looking for the perfect inn in Carmel
 

I'm looking for a great inn in Carmel that has ocean views, is quiet, romantic (adults only on this trip) and within an easy walk of shopping, restaurants and the beach. Budget is about $400/night for my wife and me. Fireplace and balcony would be great. We'll spend about 4 nights. Does all that exist in one place? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hmmmm......hard decisions. I don't know if it has the oceanviews, but it sure sounds nice. Nothing can compare with the views at the Highland's Inn. Maybe Post Ranch Inn, but you will be in Big Sur, not the Carmel area.

If you're willing to trade a bit of distance for romance, I highly recommend the Tickle Pink Inn. It's about 4 mi. from town (in the Carmel highlands, set above the ocean), and is incredibly romantic.

I'm not sure what their child policy is, but we've never come across any during our stays there. Just young and older couples.

I don't think you can have both ocean views and walk to shopping. You'll have to sacrifice one or the other. Highlands Inn has fantastic views, fireplaces and balconies but is a (short) drive to shopping. I think it would be my choice.

I've stayed at both the Highland's Inn and Tickle Pink. Feel free to ask any specific questions about either place.

TPI is a much smaller property, no restaurant on site. Their wine and cheese reception is very nice presented in a gorgeous terrace room with beautiful views of the coastline.

No turndown service at TPI which the Highland's has. When we stayed at the HI we had a panoromic view room (we were upgraded upon check-in) and jacuzzi tub in our room. It was wonderful. A full breakfast also came with the room, complete with champagne. You will be more pampered at the HI. ***kim***

There are several inns in Carmel that have fireplaces but non with ocean views. L'Auberge rooms do not have fireplaces. The San Antonio House Inn is the closest to the beach - one block away and has fireplaces. It's nice to be able to stay in Carmel and be able to walk to restaurants, shops, etc. and not have to worry about driving and parking. The meter maids in Carmel are very active!

We like to stay at the Green Lantern Inn because it is walking distance to both the beach and downtown. Some rooms have fireplaces. No ocean views, but you can hear the ocean at night.

Holiday House is very nice. Breakfasts are REAL breakfasts. The inn is 1 block from all the shops.
