Looking for the BEST Birthday Cake in San Francisco?!

I am looking for the BEST birthday cake in San Francisco! Or maybe even the best desserts at an area restaurant.

My BF is not into the "song and dance" birthday celebration where the wait staff "embarasses" you. This will be a surprise but I would still like for it to be tasteful {no pun intended!} and not cheesy!

Would love just a CLASSIC, delicious birthday cake but am open to "fancier" options!
Any help would be much appreciated!

a few months ago, dd took me macaron tasting for my birthday.

besides miettes (which is fabulous), the place that blew me away was patteserie phillipe.

www.patisseriephilippe.com

we were supposed to have lunch there before the tasting but instead ended up gorging on all their pastries which were beyond sublime.

Are you looking for a bakery or restaurant with good desserts? If it's a bakery my personal favorite is a fruit basket cake from Victoria Pastry

I don't understand what she's looking for either. A bakery where she can buy a cake, or a restaurant to dine at that has good cake on the dessert menu

Sorry! Please let me clarify.

I am looking for either:
#1 a bakery known for a great classic birthday cake
OR
#2 a restaurant known for a great birthday dessert.

Recommendations for either would be great!
Thanks! I am very sorry for the confusion.

Check out Lotta's Bakery on Polk and look to the Blum's Coffee Crunch cake. He(Earl) used to be the pastry chef at Baywolf.

Yasukochi's Sweet Shop, hidden in a supermarket on Sutter street, is famous for great cakes.
