Looking for Room with Fireplace in Carmel/ Monterey/ Pacific Grove
Does anyone have any suggestions for a room with a fireplace in Carmel, Pacific Grove, or Monterey? We are going for just one weekday night and are trying to keep the price below $200. Thinking about maybe the Carmel Valley Ranch except we do not golf. Any suggestions?

Check Asilomar.

The Normandy Inn has wonderful fireplace rooms and is right in town. Beautiful place, and I think right about your $200 price.

If you can get a room at Asilomar, it's a great deal. They all include free breakfast. And even the fireplace rooms shouldn't run over $150. We stayed there two nights a couple of years ago and loved it.

The Lacy Suite at Green Gables Inn in Pacific Grove has a fireplace & a view of Monterey Bay!

Asilomar is sold out (we are going August 3 or 4). I am looking into the Normandy & Green Gables....

GREEN GABLES is very nice if you can get in.

Check out for a list of all places in that area.

Stayed at Carmel Valley Ranch in 2001, so nice!

Kikahead, the top-rated place in Carmel in your price range happens to be mostly fireplace rooms and my personal favorite in the area--Vagabond's House. Extremely charming, the quintessance of Carmel quaint, very well located.

Two other places just below it in the Tripadvisor Carmel rankings, and in your price range, are, according to their web sites, all fireplace (Lobos Lodge) and partly fireplace Carmel Sands Lodge.) I've never stayed at either, but have been by them many times and know them also to be centrally located.
(At first I thought Carmel Sands was a one-page site, but if you click on any of the pictures, you'll get to the rest of it.)

I once had a wonderful room with a great fireplace at Hofsas House, a relatively large and similarly well located Carmel inn. I notice that it's not highly ranked on Tripadvisor due to a few very negative reviews, but a number of recent reviewers have still liked it a great deal. While I have not stayed there in a long time, I would gladly take a chance on the same type of room I had on that occasion, especially because there are only a few premium rooms like it at the inn (which is mostly non-fireplace.) They are larger and in, as I remember, a newer section of the inn than the main building. I think they may be underpriced and underbooked for their value since most people probably characterize the place by the much more modest and older rooms (the ones which have gotten those bad reviews) that make up the larger part of their accommodations, although from the outside the hotel is quite quaint and attractive. I recognized the type of room and fireplace I remembered in the pictures of what they call the "king or bridal suites, our most luxurious rooms." I chose a random weeknight and found availability at $165.

There's a place in Carmel called the Carmel Fireplace Inn, but be warned that more than one Tripadvisor reviewer found the fireplace there disappointing, one describing it as "a glorified space heater."

Oops, just realized that you specified you were going August 3 or 4. The type of room I described at Hofsas House id available either night at $180. The other inns I mentioned do not have online availability checking.

While I liked this room very much, I was reminded when checking availability at Hofsas that they claim an ocean view, and I should warn you not to make that a major factor in your decision. What you get is a pleasant view of a few slivers of ocean through a very attractive pine forest.

Vagabond's House remains my top recommendation. It has no ocean view either, and your room and fireplace would be smaller there than the top rooms I'm recommending at Hofsas. If the size of those things are priorities for this particular stay, I'd recommend the room at Hofsas. However, the grounds and ambience at Vagabond's are as charming and peaceful and storybook quaint as you can get. (I'm guessing you like storybook quaint, or you'd be avoiding Carmel like a curse.)

Thank you JohnCharles! I sent a request to Vagabond--looks fantastic!

Thank you for all the help! We booked a fireplace room at the Green Gables. Looking forward to it as I prefer Pacific Grove to Monterey or Carmel.
