Looking for Romantic Hotel in Manhattan
Can anyone recommend a nice romantic 4 star hotel on the upper west side of Manhattan near Central Park? Taking my wife on a weekend trip for our anniversary.

The UWS is not home to what I'd call romantic hotels. The Empire & 6 Columbus are near Columbus Circle and are more trendy than romantic.. The Mandarin Oriental & Trump International are also there & both are elegant but 5*. I wouldn't say the Lucerne or the Excelsior are romantic, but agree they're pleasant (more 3 *)

We stayed at 6 Columbus last spring, location was fine (we were dining at Per Se and Jean Georges, a short distance away) but we didn't really like the hotel. Small dark rooms, wouldn't let us stay an extra hour the last day, no health club, no freebie breakfast ...
On our most recent trip we stayed at the Michelangelo, about 8 blocks south near the Theater district and Rockefeller Center (and not where the original poster wants to be, I know, but easy walking distance). Even though it was more expensive it was much nicer, with a room about double the size, free breakfast munchies, nice health club (not that we actually USED it) etc. By far a better hotel.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I greatly appreciate it. Lucerne is the current front-runner. We're choosing UWS due to its proximity to Central Park, the museums and concentration of restaurants. Also, it's a part of town we've spent so little time exploring. Always open for alternative areas, however, so feel free. Again, thanks to all for being so generous with your comments and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

The upper east side has a few hotels that I would consider more romantic and would be closer to the museums. You don't say when you're doing this trip but the Surrey and the Mark hotels are very charming but might push the budget.
