Looking For Romantic Destination for 10th Wedding Anniversary
 

I just joined here and have already found a wealth of information. I am looking for a romantic destination for my husband and I to celebrate our 10th Wedding anniversary in early december. We live in central california, so could travel either north or south and would probably be staying 3-4 nights. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas on where to go? We have always stayed along the coast (Morro Bay/Cayucos) so would like to try something different.

Do you enjoy wine? How about a trip to the wine country? Either Sonoma or Napa Valley or both?

You might try the mountains? Rainbow Lodge in Royal Gorge is a cozy hideaway, and if you enjoy cross-country skiing, you are right in the middle of a great ski area (with downhill at Sugar Bowl close also). Rainbow Lodge restaurant is good too. They have another lodge in Royal Gorge that you take a sleigh ride to reach..that would probably be very romantic, but I haven't stayed there. I believe it's an all inclusive resort, with meals, etc.

For a more rustic place, we've been (though it's been several years) to Strawberry (gold country past Sonora/Angels Camp area). I think the big inn is called Strawberry Lodge or Inn.

Napa/Sonoma also good choices if you like wine---Seven Sisters Inns are nice.

You don't mention budget, but Gwyneth Paltrow went to the San Ysidro Ranch for her honeymoon and I remember reading that's where Jackie & John F. Kennedy honeymooned too. Must be a nice place.

Also do you have any suggestions on what to do while in carmel??

They don't offer specials, but rates during the week are cheaper. I know they will go down soon, the rates when we stayed were high season. I asked the front desk about rates in December and she said they will be considerably cheaper, just call them.

Just returned from 5 days in Monterey,CA and absolutely LOVED it! We have visited Morro Bay too and also thought it was beautiful! The Monterey Bay Plaza is a solid 5 Star hotel all the way. Expedia had a special with them - check it out. We visited Carmel, (beautiful but too crowded), Pebble Beach, Big Sur, and Pacific Grove. Very easy to drive to. All great places to eat in Cannery Row - just walked to them from hotel. Monterey is such a beautiful, peaceful place. We felt very safe, people were friendly and courteous. Lots of choices for food and all very competive. We live in SC and I only wish we were within several hours from this!

Tickle Pink does accept AAA on weeknights. Ask for the rate when you call.
