Looking for reunion location for summer 2010
 

We have a family reunion every 3 years and it's traditionally in Kansas, Missouri, or Arkansas. This year the 4 people planning it are younger and want something a tad more exciting. It really can be anywhere in the country, in semi-close proximity to a major airport (we're from all over) and fit for 65 people. Golf is a must and other activities like a good pool would be nice. I live outside of Orlando and it seems like the other people are interested in coming here. So far Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is the only contender. We really need something affordable. I've googled, searched, and everything else. July or early August. Any suggestions?

The Wisconsin Dells can be fun, great waterpark hotels, casino, and golf. Lots of options for all ages. We had a great reunion in Colorado at a "ranch type" resort that was rustic but still had the pool, horses, etc, there is also a good one in Michigan that has a great golf course right on the dude ranch..another hit with all ages. Finally, what about a cruise? There are bargins galor out there and activities to fit the very young to seniors..they really don't cost much more than a week at any of these other places. You'd have to golf at one of your ports but that can be arranged. Good luck and enjoy!

What about Lake Tahoe, NV. Golf courses, several reasonable hotels, Reno and Sacramento airports are handy. Even SFO isn't too bad a drive. Or San Diego, lots of golf, nice weather, hotels in all prices ranges and a major airport.

Wisconsin Dells also has an excellent Spa, Sundara, that you should check out. It has an affiliation with the Wilderness Resort which also has a golf course. I would recommend it over Lake Geneva if you come to Wisconsin.

You might also want to check out Lake Lawn Lodge in Delavan, WI one lake over from Lake Geneva. Very nice and lower cost than Lake Geneva with a nice golf course, too. Lots of varied room options.

This is going to sound weird - but how about the Villages in FL? We had a family reunion there last year and it was fun!

If you have enough older people in your group you could rent houses all within close proximity to each other and split the cost. It would be super cheap in the summer as its off season -- and you can rent golfcarts to get around - cheap and so fun. Then there are tons and tons of activities, including plenty of golf, multiple pools for swimming for the kids, bocce, shuffleboard, pickleball, tennis, pool, ping pong, etc. Believe it or not they also have a somewhat happening nightlife in a few bars too.

There are also many good daytrip options (including the obvious Dinsney) Busch Gardens, Water parks, Homosassa Springs, Silver Springs, etc.

How about Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head? A friend recently attended a reunion in Gulf Shores, AL and absolutely loved it.

I suggest the Lutsen resort in northern Mn. Fly into Duluth or a 4 hour drive from Mpls. It sports the Superior National golf course; an incredible beauty in the Sawtooth Mts that overlooks Lake Superior. The resort has lots for kids to do including a huge concrete slide on which you use sleds to careen down the mountain or you can go up Mouse mountain in a gondola and rent mt bikes, or hike the Superior National trail through amazing scenic passes, as well as visit the requisite indoor and outdoor pools and saunas etc. You can hunt for agates at the Superior beaches, gift shop at Grand Marais, drive up the Gunflint Trail into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Sail, kayak or canoe the rivers and/or the Superior, Hike the roaring Temperance river, visit the magnificent Gooseberry Falls, Stop for lunch at numerous wonderful places from Lutsen to Grand Marais (Blue Fin Bay, Sven and Ole's Pizza, Betty's Pies, etc or eat wonderful fare at the Lutsen Resort itself (the walleye is to die for). The resort itself is very genteel, the rest of the area is pure adventure - something for every age. It is a bit of a drive, but the scenery is so worth it. Sorry if I gush but it has always been our family's favorite - and no I don't have stock in any of the properties - but I should.
