Looking for Oregon Anniversary Location
 

I am looking for suggestions for a new place to go for our upcoming 27th anniversary. Having lived in Oregon for 30+ years, we have been many places along the coast and in Portland, Salem, Ashland areas. I'm hoping someone can share an idea for a great B&B or hotel within a 2-3 hour drive from our home in Roseburg, Oregon. Was also considering the Gold Beach Mail Boat run. Has anyone done that? We have been on the Jet boat ride from Grants Pass and loved it. What about the Bend area? Have been on trips with the kids there to do the museums. Has anyone been on the dinner cruise in Portland? (Spirit of Portland??) Just generally fishing for some new thoughts.

Have done the Gold Beach jet boat a couple of times - the whole day ride is what I have done and enjoyed. Saw lots of wild life

Sorry, I should have said it was in June. We like to look at antiques and scenery. Moderate hiking. I don't know if we could stand a place where there is nothing to do. We both like to have things to see and places to go. Also, would enjoy a performance of music or theater perhaps and good beer.

I'm guessing you have been to Crater Lake before. If you can get accomedation at the lodge it would be great.
There are very nice places in Sunriver, south of Bend.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have been to Steamboat Inn many times as we live just 20 miles from it. Have not stayed at Crater Lake Lodge but have been up there often. I would think there is not much to do there. Have stayed in Depot Bay but not at the Whale Cove or the Channel House. I will keep looking, too.

Another vote for the Bend/Sisters area. We go over there often with our family, but did spend an anniversary in Sisters recently. You might want to look at vacation rental homes as well. We found a great one on Craigslist and it was perfect for us.

Check out the Prospect Historic Hotel and Dinner House. On the Rogue River side of the Rogue - Umpqua Scenic Byway; just off Hwy 62 in Prospect. www.prospecthotel.com Close to Crater Lake (rim road won't be open in June), and Ashland for Shakespeare Festival. Lot of nature there and close to the Rogue Valley for arts, entertainment, wine, beer.

I vouch for the Prospect- it is a fun place to stay - but for anniversary purposes I would stay in the inn- not the motel type rooms

Well, if the anniversary is around June 17th, and you like all those things and you happen to like Jethro Tull, what about McMeniman's Edgefield? It's got that country b&b appeal, being a former farmhouse, an onsite pub and brewery, winery, vineyards, and, of course, the music!

A short distance away is Multnomah Falls, great for a short hike.

A few weeks ago we stayed at The Country Willows Bed and Breakfast in Ashland and loved it there! It is set out in the countryside but is just a short drive to all of the theaters and restaurants in Ashland. In Grant's Pass there is the Weasku Inn where we have enjoyed two great stays. We like the River Cabins on the back of the property.

We haven't been on the Portland Cruise yet but it sounds fun. We enjoyed some wonderful meals at Gracie's @the Hotel Deluxe, Wildwood and last night Meriwether's. Enjoy your trip and Happy Anniversary to you! ***kim*** ((#))

we took the Portland cruise as part of a Rose Festival tour, and it was great if you like rock music.

Haven't taken the jet boat out of Grant's Pass but can vouch for the mail boat trip out of Gold Beach as being sheer fun.

We have been to Edgefield and really enjoyed it. Not a Jethro fan, however. I will look up the Country Willows. thanks for the suggestions everybody! We might do the mail boat run, but kind of want to take our girls (9 and 17) so that isn't exactly a romantic weekend is it??? We have also been to the McMenamins in Forest Grove and it was good. At least I still have a bit of time to find something.

We've traveled extensively and stayed in lots of Bed and Breakfasts, but the attention to detail and guest comfort at Country Willows is outstanding. You'll love the gardens, the breakfast and the owners.

And if you DO decide on Bend (which I love!), remember they also have another McMenamins there that's fabulous!

This is a bit further for you, but the Geiser Grand Hotel in Baker City was restored some years back and people like staying in the tower. I have eaten there, but not stayed there.

In Bend, The Cascades Theatrical Company http://www.cascadestheatrical.org/ will be presenting "Sex, Drugs & Rick 'N' Noel" from June 10 thru the 26th. Great live theater!

Having lived in Coquille, OR for over 30 years, we love the south coast of Oregon. The jet boat trips have now been combined into one company, from what I hear. June would be a great time to go on the lower Rogue River out of Gold Beach. I second the vote for the full day trip. It is a great way to spend the day. Bandon has beaches to walk, old town with lots of shops and is about 1/2 hour drive from Coos Bay with its very own seals and sea lions out at Sunset Bay State Park. They congregate just below the overlook at Simpson Reef on the Cape Arago highway. The sand dunes just north of Coos Bay have walking trails as well as dune buggy rentals. There is a new Chamber of Commerce building right downtown along highway 101 with information on all of it. Bandon has a theater group. There are several in Coos Bay, and Coquille has its summer melodrama with olio performances. Come cheer for the hero(ine) or boo the villain. Check out the Sawdust theater Saturday night performances.
