Looking for nice hotel near University of Southern Maine in Portland

I'll be attending an event at the end of July at the U. of Soutthern Maine in Portland.

Any recommendations for a hotel? Price is not an issue at the moment. Just looking for a good place.

Someone mentioned the Eastland Park, but someone else told me it was "shabby." Any comments?

Take a look at The Regency in Portland. I think it is ranked #1 for Portland hotels. It's in the "old Port" part of town which is also a plus.

If you would consider a B & B, take a look at Pomegranate Inn.

If you'll have a car and don't mind a 20-30 min drive, consider Inn By The Sea in Cape Elizabeth. It's JULY, you should be on the coast!

There is a new Hilton Garden right in The Old Port thats about 4 or 5 miles from USM. The Eastland is nice but there is alot more within walking distance by The Hilton Garden.

I live in Portland, my husband teaches at the University of Maine. The Eastland is not shabby and it is considerably closer to USM than the others but it isn't worth writing home about. Unless you want the fancy coastal atmosphere of the Inn by the Sea, I would go with the recommendation of the Regency. It is in Portland, unlike the Inn by the Sea, and it is quite lovely, has a good reasturant and a great bar.
