Looking for local camping

We are looking for a place outside of Chicago (within a 3 hour drive) to spend some time camping. Any suggestions? Cabins would be fine too. Also, must be cheap but nice scenery. Thank you

Ann - you might get some response IF you had a better title. "Looking for local camping" could be asking about anywhere in the whole counrty.

try something like "Good camping areas within 3 hours of Chicago?"

I have 2 suggestions. Either Kohler/Andre or Wylusing state parks in Wisconsin. K/A is right on the shores of Lake Michigan and WYL is on high bluffs overlooking the Mississippi. Both, however, are pretty full all summer but should be easier to get in mid-week in September.
I've been to both and they are scenic but possibly slightly more than 3 hours.
Could also suggest you pick a county that sounds interesting and check the chamber of commerce web sites.
Western Wisconsin/Illinios are very beautiful and somewhat undiscovered.

How about Starved Rock State Park? They have a lodge w/indoor pool, cabins, restaurant, etc. Campground is good too. Beautiful scenery, great hiking! Located outside Utica, IL. Have Fun!!!
