Looking for great getaway from SLC for four days in December
Hi,
My husband and I are looking for a much needed getaway in late December. We will be dropping our son off in Salt Lake City with his grandparents, so something within a 2 hour flight from there would be great. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Oh-- we don;t ski and we live in San Francisco. Thanks!! |
orleanslaura,
Your post made me smile -- when I want a getaway from Salt Lake the first place I thnk of is Sun Valley for skiing or San Francisco! What about the desert -- Tuscon or Palm Springs? I've spent some beautiful December days at Canyon Ranch in Tuscon. Good luck! |
Great idea! Thanks!

OK, hubby very rationally ruled out Canyon Ranch because of the price. Any other suggestions?

orleanslaura,
Even if you don't ski, seriously consider Park City. There is so much to do even without skiing! Hot air ballooning, art galleries, spas, dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, horsedrawn sleigh rides, Utah Olympic park and real bobsled rides! More fabulous restaurants than you could get to in a month. Or, if you want non-snow how about the St. George area? Have you visited Zion Natl Park? Beautiful and uncrowded in the winter. St. George has lots of golf, spas, hiking in Snow Canyon. A very good option. Hope this helps! |
I agree with Dayle. If you haven't seen Zion National Park that would be a nice vacation. You could even stay at Red Mountain Spa. http://www.redmountainspa.com/index.php

orleanslaura- could you give us more info on what kind of getaway? Do you want to just veg or are you looking for hiking/scenery? Do you like shopping? Museums?
Are you looking for warmer weather? What days in December? Chicago might be a great getaway and maybe do some Christmas shopping. Chicago right before Christmas is awesome. You want warm, inexpensive and not too crowded- try South Padre Island. I think Santa Fe would be wonderful, too. But, like I said, I think we'd need to know more about what you two are into and whether you're looking to veg by the pool or "do" a town. :) |
